Real estate sales province-wide slid by 11 per cent in October to 7,196 units compared with the same month a year ago, the B.C. Real Estate Association reported today.
It is the fourth straight month of declining sales as growing unaffordability takes a bite out of demand, the association said. For the year to date, British Columbians have sold 85,399 homes, which is eight per cent below 2005.
However, while sales are down, the average home price of $410,728 represented a 20-per-cent gain from the year before.
"Home sales in the province are definitely easing back from last year's record-breaking pace," Cameron Muir, B.C. Real Estate Association's chief economist said in a news release.
"While a strong provincial economy continues to underpin consumer demand, affordabiliity concerns are keeping some would-be homebuyers on the sidelines."
